Quality of Translation

The most satisfying translations are made by those whose personalities are in tune with those of the writers and also those of the readers.

I think Savory is quite right in emphasizing harmony to be between the writer, the translator and the reader. However, it is the translator who should make it harmonious with his writer , and it is the reader who chooses to be in harmony with the translator. But there is another way of looking at it. The writer, looking for wider readability -especially a writer of the less translated world, should work hard to tune himself with his translator, and the translator, looking for the success of the translation, is supposed to work hard to tune herself with the reader.
